PRODUCTS & SERVICES

Research and Development: Ocean Imaging receives grant funding from federal agencies (e.g. NSF, NOAA, Navy), as well as state and corporate grants aimed at devising remote sensing solutions for specific needs. The company also receives major funding from NASA for commercial remote sensing technology development. Ocean Imaging scientists often collaborate with academic groups and corporations on pure research and applications-oriented projects.

Resource Monitoring: Our monitoring programs span a very wide range of applications. We provide scientists and marine engineers with daily digital image analyses of thermal patterns, flow fields and plankton concentrations. We fly our aerial sensor worldwide to create habitat maps of lagoons and wetlands for ecologists and resource managers. We use aerial and satellite imagery to map shallow water bathymetry for surveyors. We monitor effluent from coastal sanitation treatment facilities for the EPA and city agencies. We map crop health trends for major agro companies. Our broad hands-on experience allows us to quickly devise a customized, economical solution for each end-user's needs.

Data Acquisition and Analysis: Ocean Imaging maintains the most complete AVHRR data archive of the N. American west coast through its HRPT acquisition facility. Our DMSC aerial sensor provides economical 12-bit sub-meter resolution digital imagery at 4 customizable wavelengths. We provide complete image acquisition and processing services for all data types, from initial cloud screening to preparation of final products.

GIS Services: Ocean Imaging specializes in the integration of GIS and remote sensing information. We have developed GIS databases based on a variety of aerial and satellite image data to provide information to resource managers at a wide range of spatial and time scales. Ocean Imaging has to the resources to store large numbers of remote sensing images in their original raster data format or convert them into vector format. Various averaging algorithms have been developed to quantify changes in populations over long time scales such as those observed in kelp populations along the southern California coastline and in phytoplankton populations in the Bering Sea. The acquisition and conversion of legacy data such as historical aerial photography, paper maps, and CAD files is another specialty that we have developed in projects analyzing the changes in a variety of populations and habitats.

Fishing Support Services: Ocean Imaging pioneered satellite-based fish-finding services for commercial and sport fishing fleets in the U.S. Through more than 12 years of research and close work with various fleets, we have gained a unique understanding of the types of conditions defining the habitat of each fish species. We provide customized fishing advisory services for the world's fishing fleets as well as fisheries scientists. We also provide regular fishing-related satellite reports to newspapers and the media.
